MET UK was founded in Youth With A Mission (YWAM) by Jan Whitmore (nee Rowland) and Mintie Nel in 1992. God purposed for this ministry to serve across-mission and in 1995 the ministry separated from YWAM and became MET, a UK Charity (Charity No. 1063403). MET UK works in association with international Christian mission agencies to bring care, support and encouragement to the global mission community. MET UK is a member of umbrella network of missions, Global Connections UK. Our history is a story of partnership; personal partnership and partnership in the Gospel. Developing any partnership in life is both costly and rewarding, whether it is in relationship, business, ministry or missions.
In their pastoral visits Jan & Mintie helped many missionaries work through some of the most common struggles faced in a cross-cultural setting. They also raised the profile of many missionaries with local churches, seeking to form an active network of care around each person. This support was often practical as well as spiritual. In seeking to bring the most effective help to Christian workers they have constantly asked the Lord, is there nothing that can be done to prevent some of the expected trials on the field from turning into debilitating traumas? In 2002 that search led them on to a new development - hosting retreats for single missionaries in strategic and accessible international locations.
