At each MET Retreat for single missionaries
we offer 30 sponsored places. This means that each missionary
attending the retreat is paid for from the personal giving of
local church people through Mission Encouragement Trust. The
attending missionary’s responsibility is to pay a small deposit
to secure their place, and their travel costs to and from the
retreat location. The week of retreat is a gift to them.
Who sponsors the missionaries
Local church people, friends and churches
in the
UK,
USA and
South Africa.
Why sponsorship
Many missionaries live on a very low income
that does not supply enough for them to take a break away from
the mission field. Mission Encouragement Trust believes every
missionary should be able to take rest from their ministry in a
place where they can be spiritually encouraged, built up and
enjoy rest.
How
can I take part?
If you would like to take
part in this specific way of supporting missionaries please
contact the MET Office:
Email
OfficeMET@aol.com
As registrations come in we
link individual local church sponsors with a specific attending
missionary.
-
BEFORE:
Nearer the time of retreat you will then receive a photo and
details of the missionary’s mission and service, you have
specifically helped.
-
DURING: During the retreat time we invite you to pray for
“your” missionary.
-
AT THE END:
At the close of the retreat you will receive a letter from
“your” missionary reflecting on what the retreat has meant
to them.
In 2008 it will cost
£299 / $598 / R4604,
to host a missionary for one week of retreat. You are welcome to
sponsor a part of the week. The cost is
£43/$86/R658 per day.
Gifts
As part of our love and care for
each missionary we usually supply them with a new set of towels,
toiletries, flowers, books, a journal and pen, a welcome basket
in each room, as well as many other little extras like CD’s,
jewelry, and an outing during the week of retreat.
Your donation would be most
welcome to make all this possible. A guideline for the cost of
this is: £50 / $100 / R700
per missionary.
Can I keep in touch with the missionary I
sponsor?
It is not part of our requirement that
sponsors keep in touch with the missionary they help. For us,
your sponsorship is a one-off action which may be repeated at
another retreat with a different missionary. However, if you do
wish to keep in touch, and the missionary is mutually agreeable,
we have no objection.
